What We Offer
what is risograph?
A Risograph is a duplication machine initially invented in the 1980's for making cheap fast copies, like church bulletins and school newsletters Over the past decade, small publishers and artists have figured out it's capable of doing something unique and genuinely beautiful. It works like a cross between a xerox photocopier and an offset press: each color layer is printed separately using a huge variety of pigmented rice based inks, which means colors layer and overlap in unpredictable ways. The stencils it prints with are cut from a banana peel vellum, which gives each image a unique texture that has become sought after among DIY spaces and independent artists all over the world. Every Riso print carries the signs of its own making, whether that's a tiny misalignment, or an unexpected color where two ink layers meet, and that's the charm of the machine! In an increasingly mass produced, manufactured world, the visibly authentic and handmade have become the wellsprings of meaning and community.

We print on a Risograph SF5450 currently offering four colors: Cornflower Blue, Sunflower Yellow, Fluorescent Pink and Black. This allows for maximum coverage with 16,000 possible variations, but we hope to expand to offer more spot colors soon!
